When you are on a lonely desert
When the river of life runs dry
Look deep, deep inside
An ocean is singing by
Somewhere deep inside
And ocean is signing by

When in darkness the path is lost
And you have no friend nor a guide
Remember you have a trillion suns
All you need is to look in the sky

- an APV song

Ashram Paryavaran Vidhyalaya (APV) school is a model primary school and teacher training center dedicated to providing a holistic, mindful and inclusive educational experience to children living in mountain villages in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Unlike most state schools where silent compliance is required, the students here are encouraged to explore and engage in dialogue with their teachers, not fear them.

APV is a community. The staff are volunteers who live on campus. All students are welcome; there are no enrollment fees. Children without parents or other hardships can live on campus. Students are taught to learn from the world around them. Teachers incorporate music, nature and meditation to promote a mindful life and balanced education.

APV farms and sells pickled mango to fund their programs.
This is a state secondary school in the same village as APV. A great contrast to APV's methodology.
